After three years, around 100 episodes and many many hours of football chat, Chris and myself have decided to bring the twofootedtackle podcast to an end at the end of the season.
It’s been a great ride, fantastic fun, but now feels like the right time to draw the pod to a close.
This isn’t the same as the extended break we took about 18 months ago - that was down to frustration on our part that we couldn’t make the podcast as good as we wanted to, plus the need to take a break.
But now definitely is the right time to bow out. Chris and I have spent many hours talking this decision over and it feels like the right time to call it a day. Our last podcast will be at the end of May. After that, we’re done. No returns, no specials, no added extras.
Personal circumstances have changed a lot since we first started podcasting and we’re both finding a lot less time to commit to twofootedtackle. We’re still as passionate about football and the podcast as ever, but we don’t want to get to a stage where we’re doing the podcast on autopilot. It wouldn’t be fair to you, us, or our guests.
It’s been a fantastic three years, spending hours shooting the breeze on everything from Premier League to non-league, MLS to Australia, via South America and Europe. We’ve evolved slightly over the years as we found our niche and I think we’re happy where we’ve ended up, and happy that we’re bringing it to an end now.
Of course, the main reason the podcast has had so many great, memorable moments over the years has been the different guests who we’ve had in the various degrees of studios over the past year. All have been fantastic, all have made us think about football in a different way, and without the guests, there would have been no podcast. Thanks guys - you’ve been awesome.
In particular, Chris and I would like to extend a huge thank you to semi-regulars James Appell and Ryan Keaney. Both bring a very different viewpoint to the podcast, are great fun to record with and we’re privileged both wanted to join us on a regular basis to talk about football. Their contribution has been immense.
When we started, podcasting still seemed somewhat niche, but there are so many excellent podcasts now, many of whom do what we do, only better. If we could point you in the direction of one podcast to fill the void, we’d recommend Ryan Keaney’s The Football Project.
Chris can now be found at the excellent The Styles Council while I’m a little more all over the place, although for something a little bit different you could try The Oddjob Pod. Nothing to do with football, plenty of James Bond. Whatever projects we’ll head onto, it won’t be with TFT, although none of them would have been possible without it.
Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the hour or so we put out every other week. We know that our listenership isn’t exactly large, but we really appreciate those who make the effort to tune in. Thanks for your support, and for inspiring us with each podcast.
